I definitely think so! Sometimes people take jokes seriously and get offended or see it as a personal attack. It’s important to be sensitive of how other people feel.

I can speak from experience… humour is great, it can save your life, but it can also be a problem.
Some people joke too much, so it’s hard to take them seriously, and in some situations it’s highly inappropriate. I’ve heard of a funeral where the eulogy speech delivered was practially a stand up act… on the one hand it relieved the tension and probably cheered up the ones grieving… but on the other hand, it’s not extremely appropriate.
As well, some humour can be racist, sexist, and just offensive, and it’s important to stay away from these things whenever you can.
So humour isn’t always a good thing… sadly. Oh, and never joke with a cop. Trust me on that one.

Humor is very enjoyable, but I think we need to think of it as something extra. It’s really the enjoyment of demonstrating the impotence of threats. If we make it primary to our enjoyment, I think we’re making the negative far too primary in our attention and becoming nihilistic. Think of the type of person who wants to speak in nothing but jokes, and how they become unable to ever hold an actual positive belief, and often use the “you have no sense of humor” smear as away to get away with attacking everything and everyone with no basis, context, or restraint.

True, there are some people who will use humour to escape anything with real meaning.
If someone’s taking offense to something you intend to be funny, you should probably realize that there’s a reason why they’re offended and respect that. Just because you find something funny, doesn’t mean everyone else will. Some issues might personally hit close to home..

Why !! are we getting so negative about humor, So people know to crack jokes and some of them don’t , With humor you need not be attacking people !! Just plain jokes or one liners which is simply situational would surely do a lot of good , not poking fun at others, not being biased just plain humor , Its the best medicine !!

I do agree with everyone that jokes sometimes can be cruel, but if u r little cautious some circumstances can be avoided. It is true that jokes r not for everyone. We should b careful when, where and whom to crack a joke.
But one real disadvantage of frequent joke tellers is that sometimes even when u r serious u r not taken seriously.- Actions
